Energy Poverty

Energy poverty is lack of access to modern energy services. It refers to the situation of large numbers of people in developing countries and some people in developed countries whose well-being is negatively affected by very low consumption of energy, use of dirty or polluting fuels, and excessive time spent collecting fuel to meet basic needs.

Environmental Justice

Environmental Justice (EJ) is the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, color, nationa origin, or income with respect to the development, implementation and enforcerment of environmental laws, regulations and policies.

Intersectionality

Intersectionality is an analytical framework for understanding how aspects of a person’s social and political identities combine to create different modes of discrimination and privilege.

Innovation

Innovation is the practical implementation of ideas that result in the introduction of new goods or services or improvement in offering goods or services.

What Is Climate Change?
Who is it effecting?

Climate Change refers to any significant change in the measures of climate lasting for an extended period of time. In other words, climate change includes major changes in temperature, precipitation, or wind patterns, among other effects, that occur over several decades or longer.

While research and the work of activists have long highlighted just how grave the impacts of our planet’s worsening climate crisis are on communities of color worldwide, experts say it’s a problem that isn’t being discussed enough.

Racial Disparities and Climate Change

Climate change disproportionately affects those who suffer from socioeconomic inequalities, including people of color. As the nation diversifies, understanding how the current crisis impacts people of different racial and ethnic backgrounds is imperative.

What is Environmental Justice?

Environmental Justice refers to the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, color, national origin, or income with respect to the development, implementation and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations and policies.

How are People of Color Disproportionately Affected?

Minorities have been disproportionately affected  by environmental hazards and are far more likely to live in areas with heavy pollution. Furthermore, people of color are more likely to die from the effects of hazardous waste at a disproportionate rate due to unequal living conditions.

What Can We Do To Make a Change?

We must make a stand, we must let our voices be heard, we must educate ourselves and our communities of the inequities and work towards a solution.
